The London case, believed to be a Chinese national, contracted the virus in China and was confirmed to have it on Wednesday evening (local time).

It brings the total number of cases in the UK to nine.

"This virus was passed on in China and the patient has now been transferred to a specialist NHS centre at Guy’s and St Thomas’ in London," Chris Whitty, chief medical officer for England said, according to the Financial Times.

Meanwhile, there are now fears the virus - which has been officially named COVID-19 - has also spread to Bali.

That comes after the Chinese government announced a Chinese tourist flying from Wuhan tested positive eight days after arriving back home from the Indonesian island.
