Singer and actor Kris Wu has been detained on suspicion of rape.

歌手兼演员吴亦凡因涉嫌强奸被警方刑事拘留。

In a statement posted on Sina Weibo on Saturday night, police from Beijing's Chaoyang district said a 30-year-old Chinese-Canadian man surnamed Wu has been placed under investigation after being accused of tricking young women into having sex.

The police said the investigation was ongoing.

北京市公安局朝阳分局7月31日晚在新浪微博发布情况通报称，针对网络举报的"吴某凡多次诱骗年轻女性发生性关系"等有关情况，经警方调查，吴某凡(男，30岁，加拿大籍)因涉嫌强奸罪，目前已被朝阳公安分局依法刑事拘留，案件侦办工作正在进一步开展。

The statement quickly went viral on Chinese social media, and many Chinese media outlets, including People's Daily, soon confirmed the detained man was Wu.

消息一出立刻在我国社交媒体平台上引发轩然大波，包括 人民日报　在内的许多国内媒体很快证实事件主人公就是吴亦凡。

Wu's case triggered huge public attention last month when a woman posted statements online alleging he had lured young women and girls under the age of 18 to have sex by claiming he was recruiting actresses.

Du said she was one of the victims.

上月，一名女子在网络上连续发布多条帖文，指控吴亦凡以招聘女演员为由引诱并性侵年轻女性以及未成年少女，都美竹称自己是众多受害者中的一个。

The allegation sparked massive outrage toward Wu, who has more than 50 million followers on Weibo.

Several brands severed ties with the star, and some of his promotional activities were canceled.

这一指控引发了外界对吴亦凡的广泛谴责，多个品牌与他解约，他的一些推广活动被取消。
