The Taliban announced on Tuesday night the formation of Afghanistan's caretaker government, with Mullah Hassan Akhund appointed as acting prime minister.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told a press conference the move was aimed at carrying out necessary government functions, stressing it was an "acting" government.

He did not elaborate on how long the caretaker government will serve.

穆贾希德表示，组建临时政府是为了开展必要的政府工作，他强调，这个政府只是"代理"政府，也没有说明临时政府将存在多长时间。

The formation of the caretaker government was announced after the Taliban said on Monday it had completely captured Panjshir, the last holdout of Afghanistan's 34 provinces.
