But when he was compelled to grind instead of serving in the wars, he bewailed his change of fortune and called to mind his former state, saying, "Ah!

Miller, I had indeed to go campaigning before, but I was barbed from counter to tail, and a man went along to groomme; and now I cannot understand what ailed me to prefer the mill before the battle.

" "Forbear," said the Miller to him, "harping on what was of yore, for it is the common lot of mortals to sustain the ups and downs of fortune.

" 磨坊里有一匹拉磨的老马，曾在战场上打过仗，因为年老才沦落到磨场干活。

因此一回想起过去的战功累累，它就悲叹自己的不幸，对磨坊主说：当初我虽然在战场上打仗很辛苦，可是很受人尊敬，有专人为我洗刷、喂草，与现在的境遇相比，差距太大了。

”磨场主说：别老是对过去念念不忘，要知道，人世间有幸运，就必然有不幸，这是不可辩驳的事实。

” 这个故事告诉我们：怀念过去是人之常情，毕竟回忆是美好的，深刻的，令人难忘。

然而终日沉于回忆之中，就会失去现在”，印度哲学家泰戈尔说过：当你为错过了太阳而流泪时，你又错过了灿烂的群星了。

”现实一些吧！

我们谁也不可能总过着一成不变的生活，一辈子起起落落很正常。

时而荣华富贵，时而艰难困苦，不管境遇如何，都应以一种平和的心态去面对，要有随遇而安的准备，否则只会让自己更加痛苦。
