Martin has revealed at least the basic outline for his book series to the show’s producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss — and now he admits it’s entirely possible that viewers will reach the end of the Song of Ice and Fire” story via the HBO series and not the novels.

Indeed, with the rate the show is going and the rate Martin is writing, it seems fairly likely that the series will far out-strip the source material.

But fans needn’t worry too much about the stories diverging.
