The four wrapped sweets were found on High St on Saturday (local time).

They'd been placed in letterboxes and on fences outside private residences "at a height accessible to children", reports the West Australian, and were similar to the mini chocolate bars in boxes of Cadbury's Favourites.

Fremantle Police say upon inspection, the chocolates were found to contain an "unknown substance" that seemed to have been manually placed inside them.
