Celebrating a birthday may not seem like adangerous pastimebut too much happiness can beheart-breaking, according todoctors.

Health experts have known for some time thatsad events, suchas the loss of a spouse, can triggera condition known as’broken heart syndrome’ whichfeels like a heart attack and can be fatal if nottreated quickly.

Now for the first time doctors have shown that over-excitement from happy events can alsosparkthe condition, which they have named ’happy heart syndrome.

Since ’broken heart syndrome’ was first identified in 1990, doctors at the UniversityHospitalZurich in Switzerland have been compiling a database of worldwide attacks whichcurrently holds1750 patients.
